Avengers Assemble!!

So last weekend The Avengers hit theaters and it was awesome!! I'm used to be really big into comics when I was younger, my favorite of which were the Fantastic Four. I thought Mr. Fantastic was just the coolest super hero and his brains mixed with his abilities made him the most awesome of superheros. But alas, the movies sucked haha.

Anyhow, I saw The Avengers last weekend and it was just so good. Later, while browsing through Etsy I stumbled upon a shop called Nerdifacts. They make the coolest fingerless gloves to mimic super hero gauntlets. I thought they were pretty cool, so I made my own version of one of her pairs, Iron Mans. Not only did I make a pair for my cousin, but I decided to share the pattern for all of you guys! This way you can make yourself a pair to prepare for your next viewing of The Avengers! Download at bottom of the page or here.

Here are some photos of the final product...

This was my best "kick bad guy ass" pose, haha.

Again, the credit for the idea of these Iron Man Gauntlets goes to Nerdifacts, check out their shop here. You can see a bunch of different ideas for different versions of the fingerless gloves there too.

So here's the pattern for download, and don't forget, this pattern may be for Iron Man Gloves, but it includes instructions for making my version of Fingerless Mittens as-well.

Download the pattern HERE <---

Don't forget to add this pattern to your favorites on Ravelry and Craftsy, pin-it and share it on Facebook too!!

  2. Hi there! *wave* It's Maria from Nerdifacts. Thanks for passing along the initial creation credit and sharing links to my shop all over the place :) I've had quite a few visitors stop by from either your blog or your Ravelry pattern page. I love that my creations have inspired you to make your own, they look wicked! (don't you feel so powerful when you wear them?) And I must also compliment you on the pattern you put together- so colourful and fun to look at. Hopefully when I'm ready to publish a collection they'll look half as fun as yours does :) Keep up the awesome crafting!!

  7. Sneaky friends of mine posted the pic to your pattern on my facebook page so I would have to make the gloves for them! I love my friends, but I can't afford to make them gloves from cotton, so they had to settle for some very nice Lion acrylic (only the center power ring is made of cotton). Likely due to using the acrylic, and a warning to other cheapskates like me (despite moving up a hook size), I had to rework the slip stitch part of the upper palm's side as it tugged way too tightly with the stretchy acrylic, but the problem solving was fun, actually... thank you for spreading joy to more nerds... and now my son wants a pair too... me, I want to make Wonder Woman ones, I think...

    1. Thank you so much for sharing this! It helped a lot actually when rewriting the pattern for the Batman versions. I'm not a huge fan of acrylic yarns, except for Lion Brand's Vanna's Choice, but I know a lot of people use Red Heart yarns and what-not. :)

  8. Thank you - my 2yo fell in love with the idea of Iron Man, now he's 3yo and often tells me "I'm Iron Man and I can shoot you!" or "when I get big I'll be Iron Man." These will be a perfect fit for him!

  10. I'd like to make these for my 7 year old nephew. Will the pattern fit children well or do you have to adjust for their smaller size? Love the look of them and excited to make a pair...or a few! Thanks! :)

  12. What a great pattern!! The pattern downloaded only the left glove though, for the right one is everything basically backwards for the palm? And start with yellow on the cuff?
    please respond :)
    thanks! ! :)

  13. I had so many problems with this pattern. First of all the finaly product came out way too tiny. I tried with a bigger hook and it was still too small, went up another hook size which still wasn't enough, and finally had to change the pattern to all HDC stitches instead of SC to get a size big enough to fit a man sized hand. The pattern really should have a gauge to help people out with these types of problems.

Second, the instructions for the power circles don't seem right. In round 3, it says the end result should be 18 stitches, but you can't increase 12 to 18 with those instructions, it only increases to 15. Additionally, If I keep going to 18 stitches anyway, the circle seems far too small. Also round 3 says repeat 6 times. If you keep going and repeat those instructions 6 times you get 30 stitches not 18. I think this pattern needs some editing.

    1. Hey Kathleen,

It sounds to me, for this comment at least, that you are crocheting too tightly, or using too small of yarn. This was one of the first patterns I had written up and offered as a free PDF so I didnt add gauges to it, sorry about that.

I should be coming out with a video tutorial for these gloves sometime soonish in the future which might help.

  14. Making a second pair and i just noticed that, in the same what the stitch counts are off in the power circles as mentioned above, they are also off in the glove. Editing!

Also, upon closer inspection of the photos, the cuffs appear to be HDC. The stitches look a bit too tall to be SC (and I have tried many combinations of hook sizes and yarn types and can't get cuffs wide enough to fit a grown man using SC). Another pattern error, or am I seeing things?

    1. Hey Kathleen,

I most definitely use SC, not HDC so that the cuffs and gloves are at a different width and fit snugly. I used this pattern exactly to make the gloves that I am wearing in the pictures, and while i may not be that big of a man, they definitely still fit haha. I would suggest adding a few more rows in the cuffs and work the gloves accordingly.

  15. Also, following your instructions, the thumb hole doesn't end up in the same spot as it appears in the pictures.

    1. The thumbhole should end up in the same spot for each glove. The glove pattern is the same for the right and left because its reversible basically and just depends on where you put the power circles. Maybe add a few rounds before the thumb hole to get the right spot.

    2. No it ends up in the right spot height wise, but I mean when I use the stitch counts as you have in your pattern, the thumb hole ends up towards the front of the glove rather than the on the side. I have to keep going a few more stitches before chaining to get it to the side of the glove.

  16. Question: what is the point of the slip stitches in the middle of the last few rows? I don't see any purpose for them and they look ridiculous.

    1. Sorry for all the problems you've been having with the pattern, I wrote it as i was making the gloves so they should be off so much, or at least as much as your experiencing, so I'm sorry for that. As for your last question, I add the sl.sts to give the gloves an interesting tightness below the fingers so they don't slip down and stay extra snug, i liked them, but they are in no way necessary for the gloves.

  17. Such a cool pattern! I have a piano studio and instead of earning trophies kids earn crocheted stuff that I'll make them. I have a student that LOVES iron man and I'm sure would love these gloves. I'm not sure if you can give me any tips to try and make these for a little guy, around 5? Thanks so much! LOVE your site :D
